Bird's-Eye View of Jacksonville, 1893
By the 1890s, the St. Johns River had been crossed by its first permanent structure, a railroad bridge located in the same place where one crosses the river today. The city’s waterfront has changed dramatically. Tall ships plied the St. Johns as the river teemed with commercial activity of all kinds. This exceptionally detailed color-tinted rendering features various landmarks and structures including wharves, commercial buildings and houses.
