Best Roads of Florida, 1915
Best Roads of Florida, 1915
Long before GPS tech and smart phones, drivers needed maps to help navigate between cities. Maps were especially helpful at the dawn of the automobile age, as the nation’s system of roads was in its infancy and difference between a state highway and backwoods county road could be extreme.
The color-tinted map highlights the “best” roads in the Sunshine State, focusing on state highways. The key at the bottom lists more than 100 cities and their respective populations. Note Jacksonville at 100,000, ten times the size of Orlando.
