Bird's-Eye View of Jacksonville, 1876
Reconstruction following the Civil War was a period of extensive growth for Jacksonville and its surrounding communities. The city’s bustling port was literally a gateway to Florida, as few roads or railroads plunged into the state’s interior. The historical rendering highlights various points of interest, including several new hotels such as Windsor, St. James and Metropolitan.
